I don't care for buying weed with Bitcoin. But I do want kids, and we can't in good faith raise children in the masked vaccine-happy rainbow-flag hell of Massachusetts.
The Amish got it right, the Orthodox Jews in NYC got it right, and the Free State Project got it right too: a tightly-knit community with its own parallel economy and structures. Libertarians doing business with libertarian landlords, libertarian realtors, libertarian landscapers, libertarian farmers, libertarian coffee roasters... and most importantly libertarian parents organizing homeschooling pods and learning centers for the community's children.
If we were on our own, moving wouldn't be as important. Work-wise, my boyfriend and I successfully resisted the vaccine pressure - frankly we both love our jobs here. I helped organize a solid community of libertarians and conservatives, with whom we attended house parties while the rest of our city sat afraid at home with hand sanitizer. But for children it's not enough. I understand the world around us has lost its mind, but our children won't. I want them to see human faces. I want them to learn healthy human interaction. I don't want to douse them in hand sanitizer.
And you know what, I want them to grow up amongst people who share our values. Not necessarily "taxation is theft," but I want them to think of themselves as individuals who own themselves and are responsible for their actions. I want them to learn to assess risk. I don't want them ashamed of their white skin or their sex if they're boys. I don't want them surrounded by rainbow flags and encouragement to mutilate their genitals.
My family history is running... after all, we're Jews. My great-grandparents ran from Belarus to Moscow during the Holocaust because they wanted a future for their children. My parents ran from Russia to America because they wanted a future for me. I don't know where else to run: I wasn't born an American, but I will die here. It's a big country, and in it I want a little free state to call home.
Long live the parallel society!
